Daniel, a working Hebrew Father at the feast of Tabernacles:
“I came to the Feast with my family, as always, to honor God and ask for His blessing on my work, my crops, my children. The last day was always the most sacred, a time to remember how He provided water, life, in the wilderness. But this man, Jesus- He was talking about a different water. “Come to me if you thirst,” He shouted.
And for a moment, I stopped thinking about my farm, my debts, and all the struggles of daily life. I knew there was more, it was as if God himself was present, exposing my heart before the heavens, and I saw my need for Him, for forgiveness, for life. This was far beyond the daily burdens that I carried.
The words weighed on my heart. I knew what I had to do: I took my wifes hand, and whispered in her ear. “Orah, I am sorry, God has shown me how hard I have been toward you, and I am so so sorry” With deliberation and a conviction I never knew I had, I took her other hand and looked her in the eyes as my own swelled with tears “Things will change now”! And I knew they would.
With that, I dropped to my knees in the middle of the crowd, and lifted my hands to Adonai.”
The last day of Sukkot (The Feast of Tabernacles) 29AD
The voice of Jesus cut through the prayers and murmurs, interrupting the most meaningful moment of the feast of Tabernacles. The water that symbolizes Gods provision and life to the people of Israel, is being poured out:
“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.”
Jesus’ words cause a stir. The people turn to see who would dare speak such things, here in the heart of the Temple, during this most sacred moment. But Jesus does not stop.
“Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within him.”
In this great day of the feast, Jesus is declaring that He is the fulfillment of all their hopes, of all their prayers for salvation. The water that has been poured out daily in their rituals, a symbol of God’s provision, points to Him. The people, for generations, have depended on water for life, for crops, and sustenance. But here, Jesus is offering something deeper- not water for the body, but for the soul. Living water, water that will never run dry, water that gives eternal life.

Like this video illustrates, Moses lead the people of Israel through the desert, where God miraculously provided for them in every way. It was a picture of the Christ who would come and provide the need of every people, tribe and tongue. The need for forgiveness, the need for life, the need to be made right with God, the need for the hope that oneday all the wrongs will be made right. This is what Jesus Christ fulfilled.
