A man walked into a Bar, Boom Ka ! Dance with Me, A sort of Poem

This is for the brokenhearted, this is for you!

Hi everyone, once again I am going off script (and I need your help with a question below). But don’t panic, cos this is for you. And although this might seem different to my ‘ordinary’ stuff (whatever that is) … I want to share of a time when:

A MAN WALKED INTO A BAR

Ok perhaps it wasn’t a bar, although it was like a bar; ‘cos it had a lot of people hiding the reality of their broken lives behind an ‘I-got-this-type-of’ outward façade. In that way; I guess it was like a lot of places we know. The strange thing about this ‘bar’ was that there were kids of all ages running in an out. They weren’t sitting at the counter ordering drinks, but there was an outside area where they could play games and get nicely distracted. Perhaps it was more a clubhouse than a bar? Oh yes I nearly forgot: The other important thing about this clubhouse, with a bar, that made it more popular than others — was the microphone on the stage.

This is important, ‘cos the man in our story walks straight onto that stage and holds the microphone in his hand. His other hand holds a red book, and as everyone sees the man and the book, they talk a little quieter and shift uneasily, with their specific quirks showing: one ladies’ lower lip, one man’s left eyelid, the unsteady tap of fingers … hearts beat heavier, breath breathes faster.

Emotions can cause all sorts of ‘quirks’ and gestures: Anger, regret, misunderstanding, hate, love, disappointment, rejection, jealousy, loneliness, and the list goes on. The red book was known to bring all of these things to the forefront, in short: It was not the type of book you wanted to bring out in a place where everybody was pretending to be OK.

The microphone gives an awkward shriek as the man holds it to his mouth and reads:

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the suffering and afflicted. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted, to announce liberty to captives, and to open the eyes of the blind. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of God’s favor to them has come … (Isaiah 61 and Luke chapter 4)

The whole place is silent. Every eye (man, woman, child) was locked with this man’s … as he said:

“I am here for you, my heart beats for you …”

You could hear the Boom Ka of hearts beating in chests.

Walk with me!

And so, as you listen to this Poem remember, this is for you!

Thanks for joining me.

Tune in next time for more stuff from the prophet Habakkuk and Jeremiah. Words that are more relevant to today than ever before.

Question? If you could give the poem a title: What would it be? Please let me know in the comments.
