Enough Lord! Enough: Jeremiah #10.1
Alone, With the Promise of Disaster: Inspired by Jeremiah 14 and 15
Hi Guys, with this post I am releasing the official music video for the song: I will trust in You. You get to watch me walk on water while singing praises to Jesus. (No AI, I promise).
As I read through Jeremiah, watched as he trusted God in the very hardest of times; I thought it was a good moment for the song release, a song to encourage us, me, to trust in the Lord.
You can read Jeremiah 14 and 15 here. A story which continues to challenge me.
THE REALITY OF GOD’s CALL
In Jeremiah chapter 1 we see how he was called by God: Called to speak words that were not his own. Called to warn of impending judgement from the North, words that would make him feel all alone, and even the people of his home town would plot his assassination. By Chapter 15 he has had enough, crying out to his mother, grieved at being born at all.
You see, tragedy was coming, and to make things worse a severe drought had overtaken the land, the people were suffering. While other prophets gave false peace and false comfort — Jeremiah could not.
Although he wanted to sympathize with his people, to convince God that they were sorry for their sins, and to plead with God like Moses and Samuel once did. God would not change His mind. His land, his people, had fallen deeper into moral decadence and idolatry, astrology, and pagan ritual than ever before. Neither Jeremiah’s prayers, nor those of Moses or Samuel could stop what was coming.
Jeremiah was at the end of himself. Alone, slipping into self-pity and depression, he was questioning it all. He was taking the side of the people, and as he laid his heart before God, He told Jeremiah “Return to me … you should be influencing them, not them influencing you.”
WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?
I am happy to say that Jeremiah came back to God’s side, able to see God’s perspective in it all. His ministry was not over, he would speak again for God, and have the strength and grace to endure more hardship. The call of God on his life was renewed that day, and once again Jeremiah saw where his help, protection, and comfort is found: In none other than the Lord God who formed him in his mother’s womb.
In times of tragedy and human suffering, we, just like Jeremiah was tempted to do — can start to point the finger at God (as if we could do things better than him). Jeremiah was nearly there, but in the end saw the majesty of a God who wants all people to come to know Him. To trust that God, whose character is full of justice and love and righteousness — will always do what is best — and rather than become brittle clay in the Potter’s hands, Jeremiah was molded once more to bring the heart of a just and loving God to his people, and to the world.
So my friend, may we truly take God’s side, even when everyone else is against Him.
With this I release the official video for the song: I will trust in You. May it give you strength in the deepest valleys, and times of grief … to draw near to God in everything, and trust Him.
Amen

Hey Jonathan, I realized I never left a comment here but I meant to. Right after I found out about Charlie’s death I was very upset and crying when I got a YouTube notification for your song. It was such a timely comfort. I know you didn’t plan the timing that way but I really believe God had a hand in it.
This post on Jeremiah really spoke to me too. The reminder that even in the hardest seasons God is still forming and calling us back to His side hit home.
Good word and song Jonathon. ! Thank you!
