I will trust in You
I wrote this song to remind myself of what really matters, despite the circumstances.

Are you going through a season of lack? A time of shaking and uncertainty? … Or perhaps you are basking in a time of healing and plenty?
My experience is that life can change dramatically in the blink of an eye… I remember my closest family member being there one day and gone the next. I remember being a new father. At the time I was one of the healthiest people you’d meet - with a loving family, a wonderful home, an active church life. The next moment, whilst my wife and a friend rushed me to hospital (praying all the while for a miracle), I could feel my life slipping away from me as my brain hemorrhaged.
I often marvel at the grace and privilege of being able to turn to God in those times of great trial, and struggle. “Lord Save him!” my wife cried out instinctively. (And He did – but more on that in next month’s newsletter). Yet how strange, that in more relaxed ‘routine- like’ circumstances I so easily forget in whom my trust should be placed.
I might say “I don’t care about my bank balance”, but I sure do feel more secure when it’s growing. I might say “I don’t care what job I do”, yet I often compare myself to more successful peers. I am amazed how natural securities quickly eat away at my zeal for God’s will, how “cares and worries” steal the joy from life. A life called to contribute and not just consume, to give and not just get. In my home, my church, and my community, this song is my reminder to trust Him through it all.
You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.- Isaiah 26:3
This verse speaks in the midst of uncertain and difficult times, when you and I would probably make sure we have the right friends in the right places and re-affirm our asset portfolio just in case things turn bad. Isaiah changes the perspective, reminding us that no matter our status, trusting God is more than just saying or singing it. What matters most is not what men see when they look at what I’m doing, but what God sees.
Some more verses that inspired this song …
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you”. So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me? - Heb 13: 5-6
And it will be said in that day: "Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the LORD; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation." - Isa 25: 9
